Cooking for a Cause

As part of the Joy of Giving week, Chennai Mission and CSIM presents Cooking for a Cause (CFC)—a series of events that are innovative and inspiring. These are organized as part of Joy of Giving Week and cater to the needs of NGOs in Tamil Nadu. The aim is to raise Rs 2 crores for about 60 NGOs in Tamil Nadu.

Battle of the Buffet

Date: 1st, October 2013
Venue: Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, Chennai

The best hotels in the city will showcase their culinary talent and skills at ‘Battle of the Buffet’ on 1st October 2013 at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, to raise funds for over 60 non-governmental organisations in Chennai. Funds raised could help educate a child, provide shelter to the elderly, subsidise medical costs for a poor patient, rehabilitate a mentally ill homeless woman and reach out to several more such underprivileged people.

This event is an opportunity for you to reach out to the larger public and tell them about your work. It’s for you to garner greater support for your cause.

Chefs of leading 5 star hotels and their teams will put together their best buffet and throw it open to the city. Close to 2000 Chennaities are expected to attend the event by donating Rs.5,000 each for the causes they care about. Leading musicians will perform live during the event.

Cake for a Cause

Date: 2nd, October 2013
Venue: Forum Vijaya Mall, Arcot Road, Vadapalani, Chennai

Chennai Mission and French Loaf of Oriental Cuisines Pvt. Ltd. are jointly organising a fundraiser—Cake for a Cause—on 2nd October, 2013 at Forum Vijaya Mall, Arcot Road, Vadapalani, Chennai.

Amateur photographers will share pictures on the theme "Children of Chennai" and these images will be used for the Picture Cake. The entries will be judged by a panel of experts, and select images would be used.

Besides, school children belonging to 6th to 8th standard in all the 7 schools of The Madras Seva Sadan Group of Institutions would be participating in a painting competition. They will paint on the theme “My Chennai/My Pride and select paintings would be used as images for the Photo Cake.

About the event: French Loaf will bake a Picture Cake measuring 100 meters in length and weighing around 1,000 Kgs. Cake will be offered to donors at a price of Rs. 1,500 per kilo, and the entire proceeds will be contributed to Child, an orphanage that provides care and shelter to children of HIV affected people; and Akshaya Trust, an NGO that provides educational support to underprivileged children in Chennai.

We have been conducting this event since 2010, and have raised funds of over 20 lakh rupees to support needy NGOs in the city.
